Position Description

  • – Responsible for provision of general breed society administration and delivery of high-value services for a progressive beef cattle breed association.
  • – Based at the hub of Australia’s livestock industries in Armidale, NSW.


Company Background

The Agricultural Business Research Institute (ABRI) is a dynamic company that provides breed recording software, genetic evaluation and secretariat services to a wide range of livestock industries including beef cattle, sheep, goats and dairy cattle.  This position is based at ABRI’s head office on the campus of the University of New England, Armidale NSW.


Skills and Attributes 

Applicants should have the following skills and attributes:

  • – Understand the fundamentals of business and financial management/administration
  • – A sound knowledge of the livestock breeding industries
  • – A good understanding of modern breeding techniques including genomic technologies and their application in livestock industries
  • – Well-developed computer skills and ability to learn and use new computer systems
  • – High level competency with Excel, Word, Outlook and the Web
  • – Competent in MYOB or Xero accounting package
  • – A good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • – Willingness to work cooperatively with a board of directors, society members and staff
  • – Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • – Ability to work unsupervised and to display initiative
  • – Willingness to undertake training and staff development
  • – Creative problem solving and trouble shooting skills

Interstate travel may be required.

Education and Experience

A degree or diploma in Business Administration, Agribusiness or Agricultural Science would be looked upon favourably.  Applicants with livestock industry experience are also encouraged to apply.

A salary will be negotiated to reflect experience and qualifications.  Option for part time contract.

Selection Criteria – please include examples where possible

  1. Appropriate qualifications and/or experience in livestock breeding industries.
  2. Bookkeeping experience with a recognised accounting package.
  3. Administration experience including organisational and time management skills.
  4. Well-developed computer skills including but not limited to use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Position description

We are looking for a motivated and experienced developer that is willing to take on new challenges and be part of our ILR development team. You will play a core role in growing and supporting our internationally recognised enterprise web application developed using the ASP.NET MVC stack with a Postgres backend. You will be working within a small team of developers, dedicated to using industry best practice testing, design patterns and the latest development in the .NET space.

ABRI is a world leader in livestock recording and genetic evaluation software improving business practices for animal breed societies and streamlining herd management for farmers in all corners of the world. We have a team of 20 software professionals using a variety of technologies and languages working with database systems, mobile apps, and web systems. We invite applications from experienced, highly motivated and skilled developers to join the software support team.

Skills and Attributes 

Applicants should have the following skills and attributes:

  • – 5+ years of experience as a .NET developer
  • – Experience of writing and consuming web-based API’s
  • – Knowledge of HTML5/CSS/JS/Ajax is a must
  • – Sound knowledge of SQL and store procedures is a must with PostgreSQL experience a plus
  • – TDD, Unit Testing Frameworks (NUnit)
  • – Experience of, or a willingness to work in a Scrum environment
  • – Experience with .NET Core and Blazor is a plus
  • – Dev-ops skills and experience is a plus (production deployment, continuous integration monitoring and testing)
  • – Knowledge of oAuth / OpenID / IdentityServer is a plus
  • – Experience with Agile tools and processes
  • – English communications skills and able to communicate with team members, backend developers and customers to solve problems
  • – Eager to learn new technologies
  • – Self-motivated, creative, initiative
