The Agricultural Business Research Institute (ABRI) is recruiting for a communications manager to join their executive management team. This position is based in Armidale, NSW, working from ABRI’s head office located on campus at the picturesque University of New England (UNE).

ABRI produces a range of high quality agribusiness information services and technology driven products to meet the diverse needs of clients in the Australian and international livestock industries. These products and services assist our clients improve their profitability while achieving efficiencies and sustainability.

Our customised software and services include BREEDPLAN®, the International Livestock Registry (ILR), HerdMASTER, and iCompete. Setting the benchmark in animal recording and genetic evaluation software, ABRI is focussed on improving business practices for animal breed societies and streamlining herd management for farmers globally.

Role responsibilities

The primary purpose of the communications manager is to execute a communications plan and marketing strategy for ABRI in its entirety, but also the individual business units which comprise the ABRI brand.

The role will be responsible for all aspects of leading and managing the communication efforts with some of the key responsibilities listed below:

 – Develop content for use in social media, internal newsletters, presentations, industry media and at meetings and events to provide consistent, targeted, and impactful messaging.

– Build and maintain solid partnerships with leaders in the organisation to better develop, coordinate, direct, and facilitate strategic communications designed to meet business goals.

– Design campaigns to target specific audiences, placing an emphasis on campaign performance to guide future programs.

– Direct in-house and external graphic designers, photographers, and other media-production specialists integral to the completion of marketing projects.

– Contribute ideas for new programs, researching and recommending innovative branding opportunities.

– Research and understand key business challenges, customer behaviour, competitive activity, and environmental factors that impact programs within the business.


– Develop an understanding of short- and long-term department goals and planned initiatives.

– Work with leadership to take the pulse of overall business activity to identify cross-marketing opportunities.

– Stay informed of developments in the field of marketing and communications to foster ideas and innovation.

– Update and manage website content and analytics.

– Design and execute social media strategy.

– Plan, create and deliver internal and external e-newsletters.

  • – Establish and manage other internal communications channels and tactics.

 

Communications Manager Qualifications/Skills:

– Strong, versatile copywriting skills

– Good planning and coordination skills

– Ability to multi-task and re-prioritise as needed

– Desire to take full ownership of assigned projects and able to work independently

– Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

– Possesses a sense of urgency; is self-motivated and detail-minded

– Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships

– Good verbal presentation and facilitation skills

– Proactive approach to resolving problems and issues

– Must be tenacious and unrelenting in following up internal leads and opportunities

– Experience in or an understanding of the agricultural sector is advantageous

– The ability to cut through complex scientific information and deliver clear, concise information.

Education and Experience Requirements:
 

– Bachelor’s degree in journalism, strategic communications, public relations or equivalent

– Minimum five years communications / public relations experience

– Demonstrated experience with Facebook and LinkedIn. 

– Experience working across multiple projects with multiple stakeholders at any one time

– Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and web content management systems

Hours and Remuneration

Location is Armidale NSW – must be based locally to physically work within the ABRI office with the team however some hours / days can be worked from home.

Hours and salary flexible depending on applicant. Can be a part-time position.

The primary purpose of the Chief Product & Innovation Officer is to design and deliver on the Technology Innovation Strategy which is fundamental to ensuring the business meets their customers’ needs for the future.

The Chief Product & Innovation Officer is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and works closely with the CEO to drive the implementation of key strategic objectives, develop business cases for new features and products, budget management, forecast/profitability analysis, and of course be the champion for company culture.

The role will be responsible for all aspects of leading and managing the delivery of software services and advising, leading and managing the ABRI’s transformation projects.

Key accountabilities include:

  • – Be a sounding voice and help pioneer ABRI’s product and innovation strategy
  • – Continuous improvement of product Innovation, including opportunity identification and assessment processes
  • – Design, in collaboration with the team, a modernised technology eco-system to future-proof the ABRI services
  • – Complete Business Analysis on a per-client basis to understand each customers’ business and their unique requirements
  • – Stakeholder management both internal and external in a product development program
  • – Management of ABRI’s IT/ Innovation budget
  • – Build capacity to deploy software products at scale
  • – Lead the multi-functional software development teams (12 staff between two squads)
  • – Champion the software development projects and assess improvement/new feature opportunities
  • – Contribute to product development plans
  • – Development and implementation of the ICT strategy
  • – Engage customers in user and customer advisory board processes.
  • – Complete in detail competitor analysis and market research
  • – Advise the leadership on emerging technologies and technology trend analysis
  • – Be instrumental in the pricing and positioning of ABRI’s products and services

Selection Criteria Essential:

  • – Excellent leadership, relationship management negotiation, consensus building, and management skills
  • – Critical thinker and entrepreneurial mindset (start-up thinking, forward thinking, dealing with ambiguity) with sense of urgency
  • – Ability to work effectively in a diverse and cross disciplinary environment
  • – Demonstrated results focus and analytical skills
  • – Minimum 7 years Product Management experience including analytics.
  • – Manage and facilitate customer research, co-design and prototyping
  • – Understanding commercialisation and licensing of digital technology

Selection Criteria Desirable

  • – Agile Certified Product Manager, or similar professional experience or certification
  • – Business analyst skills Demonstrated digital product management experience Qualifications in IT, Business, Entrepreneurship, or a related area
  • – Leadership experience, with experience related to transformational leadership and leading change
  • – International sales and marketing experience

The primary purpose of the Systems Manager is to design, deliver, support and maintain ABRI’s IT Infrastructure while supporting and managing the in-house team of Systems Administrators (2). You will have collaborative leadership qualities and an in-depth knowledge of help desk best practices and previous experience managing a high-performing team.

The Systems Manager will report to the Managing Director, you’ll be the force of change when it comes to new systems implementation, support of the businesses VoIP, Network, Office 365, Linux products, Backups, and everything ICT related.

Key accountabilities include:

  • – I.T. systems architecture design and improvements
  • – Security – firewall set up and maintenance
  • – Backups – setup and monitoring, recovering files from backups
  • – Operating system upgrades (Postgres, Linux, Windows servers, NAS, Watchguard UTM)
  • – Network configuration and troubleshooting
  • – Setup, config, maintain, and optimise remote servers: both on‐premises and cloud (Azure)
  • – Setup and maintain access to remote servers
  • – Web application and database DevOps
  • – Procurement of all ICT-related hardware and licensing
  • – Support the setup and onboarding of all new staff including device setup and config
  • – Liaising with external service providers for support of communications systems (O365 / Mobility/ VoIP)
  • – Be the Systems Administrator for all sensitive data including the creation of permissions on new folders and files
  • – IP address, logins setup and maintenance
  • – Linux support
  • – After-hours IT Support (as required)
  • – Possess and maintain up‐to‐date knowledge of technological developments in the industry
  • – Management of IT Help Desk team and Systems Administration staff (2)

Selection Criteria Essential:

  • – Excellent leadership and management skills
  • – Previous experience in a Senior Systems Administrator role or IT/ Systems Manager position
  • – Experience supporting: Windows devices, Apple Mobile Devices, Active Directory, Azure AD, Office 365, Postgres, Linux, Windows servers, Azure, NAS, Watchguard UTM, RMM, and MDM
  • – Strong understanding of Cyber Security and the impact it has on a business
  • – Ability to work effectively in a diverse and cross-disciplinary environment
  • – Minimum 5 years experience in the ICT environment
  •  

Selection Criteria Desirable

  • – Qualifications in IT, Computer Science, or relevant field
  • – Previous Agribusiness experience
